Victoria Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a series of alleged groping offences in the Melbourne Central Business District (CBD). Detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team took action after multiple reports were made of inappropriate and unlawful contact involving women in central Melbourne in February 2026.

The man was located and arrested without incident. He has been charged and will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in coming weeks as the legal process continues. Police are continuing to investigate the matter and are encouraging anyone with information or footage to come forward to assist in ongoing inquiries.

When Everyday Spaces Feel Less Safe

Melbourne’s CBD is a hub of activity, culture, nightlife, workplaces, shopping and transport connections. For many people, it is a place they move through every day with confidence. But experiences like unwanted physical contact can deeply affect someone’s sense of safety and wellbeing, especially when they happen in public spaces most people consider normal or familiar.

Incidents of unwanted touching may not always make front-page news, but they can leave lasting emotional impacts on those affected. Beyond the legal consequences for those accused, these situations remind us that personal boundaries and physical respect matter, and that feeling safe in public spaces is essential.

Awareness and Support Are Part of Safety

While police actions and legal outcomes are important, personal safety also involves awareness, preparedness and connection to trusted support. Being aware of your surroundings, checking in with someone when you travel alone, and having tools to share your plans or reach out when something feels wrong are all part of building confidence in your daily routines.
